How To Install A Bathroom Sink
Learning how to install a bathroom sink may seem like a difficult task. With a little knowledge and skill you can do it yourself. If you are not comfortable with the installation you may want to get a licensed contractor or you may want to get a licensed plumber to do the plumbing part of the installation.
So now lets learn how to install a bathroom sink. Below is the process I use. This installation procedure is for a sink that goes on a vanity.
The bathroom sinks I prefer are the ones that you can get from any home supply store that are sink tops and are sized to fit on a vanity cabinet. Once your vanity cabinet is in place you will be ready to do the sink installation.
Install Water Shut-Off Valves
If this is a new installation you will have to put water shutoff valves onto your hot and cold water lines. Follow this procedure for both the hot and cold lines.
1. When doing this, leave at least an inch and a half of the copper supply line. Make sure that when you cut it, you leave it at least 1 to 2 inches for installing the shutoff valve compression nut and ring and the plate that goes here. You will need a cutter wheel to cut the supply line. Be very careful when doing this so you don’t flatten the pipe. The compression nut and ring will not tighten unless the pipe is round.
2. Slip the wall plate on followed by the coupling nut and the compression ring. Next comes the valve. Make sure to hold the valve outlet up and it will just slide over the compression ring.
3. Using two crescent wrenches tighten the coupling nut on the valve. You will probably hear them squeak when they are tightened correctly.
Install Sink Fixtures and Faucets
Once the water shut off valves are installed, you will need to install your sink fixtures and faucets per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Install the Sink Top to the Vanity
Then install the sink top to the vanity cabinet by using the recommended silicone or caulk to hold it down to the vanity cabinet.
Connect the Water Supply Lines
1. Fasten water supply lines from the hot and cold water pipes to the appropriate places on the sink fixtures.
2. Fasten the trap to the drain body and the drain pipe. To ensure this is done correctly, turn your hot and cold water lines on, bleed air out of the pipes and run water in the sink basin to make sure there are no leaks.
So now that you know how to install a bathroom sink you are ready to put on your tool belt and head off to the next project.
